Compassionate Conservatives????

Reading Red's last blog got me thinking about a few things.

All of us conservatives at one time or another have been accused of being uncaring or selfish, always thinking of ourselves.  Just those greedy capitalists.

Knowing Red's family like I do, and for that matter my own family, and I start wondering just where are they getting these ideas from?  The Save the Whales folks have nothing on us, as we save puppies right in our own neighborhoods.  Way to go, Red!!!

I really got to thinking about this because as I write this, the gorgeous Mrs. Steve is out with a Paws with Purpose training session.  We have had the privilege over the past month to host and train a golden retriever for future use as a service dog.  This cute little guy will eventually, in about 2 years, be handed over to a physically handicapped or deaf person (not seeing-eye dog). 

Letting go of the little guy will be real tough.  As we have discovered, though, we usually lose pets to something eventually (like death).  So in this case, we're real excited that we lose him for a great purpose.  And the great thing is, after all the crying and good-byes, we can just pick up another and start all over again!

Whatever your political persuation might be, please consider something that helps your fellow man (or woman).
