On the local news front, I see where Governor Ernie Fletcher and Mayor Jerry Abramson were at the ribbon cutting ceremony for UPS's new Global Operations Center.
The Governor had an announcement at the ceremony. It looks like the state will be building a bridge across the Interstate (65) to connect the current airport area with the old Edgewood community. This will allow traffic between the new development in Edgewood and the rest of the airport operations.
I think this idea is a very good idea. No questions at all. I do have concerns as to what and how the old Highland Park area is being developed. The community itself has been cleared out for years, with very little development there to speak of. Driving thru there, you would find the USPS express mail center on Highland Park property. Nearby, you would find Federal Express' local hub, on old airport property bordering Highland Park. Outside of this, nothing.
When considering all the hoopla surrounding the Highland Park private property purchasing, I would think that developing this area would be a priority as well. Not just Edgewood.
Maybe we need a bridge there, too.
