Lady Colonel and myself spent a loooong day in the car yesterday (9/9/2005) traveling home from Michigan. We had been listening all week to a variety of stuff on our new XM radio. Stuff like the 70's channel (channel 7), the Heart (23), the Blend (25), and the Fish (32). We also listened to some conservative talk hosts on XM, like Tony Snow on 165 (Ask!), Michael Reagan on 166 (Radio America), and Sean Hannity on 124 (ABC News & Talk).
Friday night at 8pm, we thought "let's be curious and have some fun...flip over to Air America for an hour". Sooo, we moved on over to a very unused part of the dial at channel 167. Were we in for something!
The show on at that time is Majority Report. The show is normally hosted by Janeane Garofalo and Sam Seder. Janeane was running the show from Los Angeles, and had Bradley Whitford from "West Wing" sharing the microphone with her.
With folks like these two on the air, I can now see why there ratings are so low. We attempted to listen for the whole hour, but we were outta there at 8:36. That's after the we gasped and hollered at the radio a few times.
Janeane and Bradley ran the gamit of liberal talking points. How bad Bush is. How terrible, unloving, and non-Jesus followers Christians are. How weird Pat Robertson is. How much of a drug addict Rush Limbaugh is. The problem was they presented absolutely NO facts to prove the points.
I can't speak for previous shows of Majority Report, but this one didn't have any callers. No phone numbers were ever advertised. I'm not sure they would want any, after listening to them. Their lack of facts would have been shot down very quickly. Probably only by us, though, 'cause we were probably their only listeners (if only for a little while).
I suspect these guys at Air America won't last very long. The quality of their product, and the quality of their financing (can you say Gloria Wise?) has a lot to be desired. I like Rush's statements about wanting to keep one liberal around like a museum piece, just to show exactly what the left is like. However, I don't think that one lefty will be broadcasting from Air America.
