As David at Infinite Monkeys has noticed, I think that Brendan Miniter is on to something. He asks the question "Republicans have abandoned small government. Why shouldn't voters abandon them?"
Small government IS why we voted them in. There is no redefining the word "is" here.
We are still waiting for someone on the Republican side to back off of some of the pork in the 2005 Transportation Act. The first person to possibly back off of their pork is...are you sitting down?....is none other than Nancy Pelosi. Quote from DetroitWonk at Truth Laid Bear:
Rep. Pelosi said today on CNN that she would be willing to cut $10 million in highway funding for San Fransisco if it was needed to fund Katrina re-build. She said that "citizens of my district would be proud to give up that funding". Her office stated she would be willing to give up the dollars if other members would be willing to do the same.
Granted, I think she is posturing for re-election. But I wish to ask the question: Why aren't Republicans taking the lead on this?
