Than Bush supposedly lying. That is, what Senator Jay Rockefeller had to say to Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday. As Powerline has reported, the significant part of the interview:
WALLACE: Now, the President never said that Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat. As you saw, you did say that. If anyone hyped the intelligence, isn't it Jay Rockefeller?
SEN. ROCKEFELLER: No. The — I mean, this question is asked a thousand times and I'll be happy to answer it a thousand times. I took a trip by myself in January of 2002 to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, and I told each of the heads of state that it was my view that George Bush had already made up his mind to go to war against Iraq — that that was a predetermined set course which had taken shape shortly after 9/11.
The timeline, as I see it, is that in January 2002, Jay Rockefeller tells Syria that basically "We're going to war." Then, on March 20th, 2003, we start battle with Iraq. That gives 14 months for Syria to warn Iraq and to co-ordinate moving stuff (like, maybe, WMD's).
Sounds to me that Jay has some 'splaining to do. Giving away military secrets? Sorry, that doesn't place him very high on my list.
Bill Bennett has also ran on this same subject in National Review Online.
