A small blog battle is brewing over movies. Hugh Hewitt says the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe will beat out King Kong. Galley Slaves says the opposite, and by Hugh's implication Drudge also says the opposite.
I have to go with Hugh on this one for a number of reasons. I personally will see both movies, but I am highly anticipating Narnia. I've already bought tickets for an opening night showing here in Louisville. On the other hand, I'll see Kong whenever I get around to it.
I believe there is a pent up demand behind seeing Aslan come to the big screen. Yes, there has been a BBC-TV version of the book made, but who's seen it? Not many outside of the U.K., I presume. Many readers like myself are waiting for the visual version of the book, like the demand behind the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
King Kong has had several incarnations, including three movies. The story line is known, with some differences in plot twists and technology used.
Both movies I believe will be done well, but economically I think the lion will have more in his wallet than the ape will.

Yup - I've already got my Narnia tickets. We'll definitely see Kong in the theater, but we know it will be there for a while....
