I had the privilege of seeing The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe this evening. Describing it in few words would be thrilling, exciting, and fairly true to the book.
Many others have written about their viewings or expectations of the movie: Blogs4God (listing of others writing), Reviews by PapaBear, and In the Faith (review of critics thoughts). I personally wished to look at how others around me in the theater responded.
At the end of the movie, people actually applauded. Then, they stood around talking about the film. 'Course, having a sold out house meant they weren't moving out too quickly anyway. These responses were rather unique for me. I had not seen actions like this since The Passion of The Christ, where folks sat speechless at the end.
Some folks I spoke with in the theater associated the film with Harry Potter. I see Potter (and the Force from Star Wars) placing the good and evil practitioners on the same level. For now, the good ones win, but the evil ones could still win the next time. In Narnia, however, the good side is not on equal footing. It's actually more powerful. C. S. Lewis' gospel allegory shines through.
I believe anyone not looking at it from a Christian view will still walk away enjoying a movie for just the story line. Maybe some may walk away asking what the hullabaloo was about. I myself was thrilled to see even more Christian analogies on the screen than I saw while reading the book. Disney didn't add them; the visuals helped bring them out.
One small hint, not quite a spoiler: when the credits start, don't get up. You'll miss something if you do.
