...about Kentucky. First, it was Colonel Sanders bust in the Kentucky State Capitol. This time it's about the Kentucky Derby. Seems she's decided to boycott this year due to Kentucky Fried Chicken's parent, Yum! Brands, sponsoring the Derby.
Surprisingly, I actually have a problem with the sponsorship, but not the problem she's got. Starting this year, the Derby will be known as "the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands." Something this historic should just go by it's own revered name, not suck up to corporate sponsorship. This makes it so much less unique, in the company of things like "the Fedex Orange Bowl". The premiere Rose Bowl hasn't buckled yet to sponsorship in the name, and neither should the Derby.
For her reasoning with KFC, I think I'll be buying a bucket soon in her honor.
Honestly, tho, I won't be missing Pamela. Nor will too many other folks. She's only been there, as a celebrity, twice (2001 and 2003). I don't think Churchill Downs will be hurting.
