The mainstream media has been known to have a rather high and haughty view of itself. Rather to the level of royalty, one might say.
I was reminded of this when seeing a quote in the March 2006 edition of the Limbaugh Letter. Listed was the quote from Ted Koppel stating: "it is the journalists who should be telling their viewers what is important, not the other way around." Ouch. (See full editorial at freepress.net).
Granted, I'm no Rhodes Scholar, but I like to think that I have the capacity to make informed decisions on my own. Myself and every other person in this great country of ours. Or for that matter, every person on the planet.
Ted quotes earlier in his editorial "I cannot help but see that the industry in which I have spent my entire adult life is in decline and in distress." Take your pick....either 1) we, the customer, have wised up, or 2) the industry's competitors have wised up and given us the customer other alternatives. Myself, I go for the second one.
