Professor Bainbridge discussed this past Thursday about his experiences with internet connections while on the road.
My experiences on the road have been with both wired and wireless (wi-fi). Most of the problem places I've run across have been the small hotels in somewhat out of the way locations. Last year, during a storm chase, I ran across major problems in Junction City, Kansas and minor problems in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. In both places, I felt like their I.T. department showed up when I did (as in I was it).
My wired experience was at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando. They charged $9.95 a day for connection. The first day of connection was problematic, and it turned out to be my machine. In spite of that, their outsourced tech support group still treated me in true Disney fashion - Outstanding! For the five days beyond the first, connections were great!
Previous visits to Mackinaw City, Michigan, and the Maryland/Virginia suburbs of DC went trouble free. So far, the only sites I've ever had charge were the Disney resorts.
I am waiting for the day that internet services, of wired or wireless variety, become both ubiquitous and as mostly trouble free as we've gained with phone services.
