Captain Ed notes that, in the light of the despicable actions of Florida Rep. Mark Foley, comes news of more despicable actions. Speaker of the House Denny Hastert has now lied as to what he knew and when he knew it. Roll Call states:
A cinema owner in Hoopeston, IL, recently shutdown his theater for two weeks rather than run movies he found objectionable. "The movies are so bad and I don't need the money
... I just didn't think I should use my high-quality facilities to show
people vomiting on screen," said Greg Boardman, the owner of the theaters. Two recent movie sequels led to his 14 day hiatus...."Jackass" and "Beerfest".
Of course, some folks complained that all Greg did was ruin some small town kids' weekends. Some of us, tho, kinda think he made it better. I mean, if we parents are here to influence the minds of our youth, why allow "garbage in" now and then complain about the garbage coming out of them later?

WAVE-TV of Louisville will be hosting a debate between Anne Northup and John Yarmuth on Tuesday October 10th at 7pm. Also, see this article from the Courier-Journal on other news of the local media's political coverage schedule.

A while back, John Yarmuth stated that he'd stand behind his public opinions. The following excerpt from this article suggest he might have to rethink that:
Democrats are learning just how deeply the Republicans have been digging. John Yarmuth, a Kentucky Democrat who is running for a House seat, has spent much of the past few days trying to explain editorials unearthed by Republican researchers and spotlighted in new advertisements. Mr. Yarmuth wrote the editorials for his student newspapers, and in them he advocated the legalization of marijuana, among other things.
That might be a good thing in California, but not in many places in Kentucky.
If you're from Kentucky, interested in voting, but have not registered to vote for the upcoming November 7th general election, here's the website where you can register to vote. You have until October 11th.
The needed registration form is found here, and a list of county clerks offices to mail it to can be found here. Of course, send it to the county of your residence.
No matter what your party registration is, get 'er in so you can vote this year!

There's already been alot of talk about the space tourist Anousheh Ansari on the International Space Station. Now, she's blogging from there. Cool! (Oh yeah, she's a trekie, too).
I remember as a child back in the sixties dreaming about being an astronaut some day. Now I'd have one more thing to do while "out there".

Tonight at 9:30pm on ABC, Louisville native Darlene Hunt pairs up with Ted Danson in the new TV series "Help Me Help You". The Louisville Courier-Journal writes about it today.
It's great to see someone dream big and really get somewhere. We'll see how the show turns out this evening.
Update: Eh, some folks might like it, but not here. As my wife said "It's hard to find a good show anymore".

I've always been intrigued by the differences between men and women, from the obvious to the not so obvious. Now comes the story in the Washington Post on Louann Brizendine's new book "The Female Brain."
I'm wondering, with all the mounting scientific evidence, if some liberal thoughts on the subject will finally change to match what our eyes can see?

We watched the rain over the past couple of days (Friday and Saturday) really pound our area with 4-8 inches and isolated areas over 8. I was kinda wondering at times if it would ever stop.
Many areas in Kentucky and surrounding states did not fare as well as we did in the local area. Our prayers go out to them as they clean up the areas around them.
I note from the article linked:
"It was almost Katrina-like pretty much," said Chester Craig, a lieutenant with the Mercer Central Volunteer Fire Department. "There were vehicles underwater and people were walking around in a daze."
What's great is that, not New Orleans-like, the areas struck by the flooding rallied their local forces and helped their neighbors.
