Mike Gallagher comes on in the evenings here in Louisville. I turned his show on around 10:00pm while I was in the car and was shocked at what I heard. Mike had offered to give representatives of the Westboro Baptist Church an hour of air time if they would not protest the funerals of the Amish girls who were recently killed and they accepted. (These are the same people who protest at soldiers' funerals.) So, I listened to about 25 minutes of the broadcast. I'm not sure I could have taken much more.
I read about a theologian who was asked what made Christianity distinctive from other religions. He said, "Grace." Because of His love and mercy towards us God offers us adoption into His family. Not because of what we have done, but because of what Jesus did. That is grace.
There was no grace to be found in these ladies of Westboro Baptist Church. They were all about the law and judgment.
There was a group in Jesus' time that was also all about the law. They were called Pharisees. Jesus had a lot to say about them. Not much of it was good. I imagine he would not have much good to say about this group of "Christian Pharisees" at Westboro Baptist Church.

I thought Gallagher was stupid for doing that. Sort of along the lines of don't negoiate with terrorist...or Gallagher pulled a publicity stunt.
