We've all heard the stories, both true and false, of folks who have died but no one noticed for an extended period of time (sometimes for a year or more). Now out is a story of a Florida lady who's power was knocked out by a hurricane and just now turned back on.
Florida's most recent hurricane was a year and a half ago (Wilma in October, 2005). That would be long enough without power. This lady's power had been out since Andrew. Yes, Andrew. 15 years ago.
There were several things behind the long length of time before the power was restored. One of those issues was how no one in the area really knew there was a problem. Once somebody found out, things happened quickly.
Kinda sad how disconnected and detached we've become in modern society. Sure, there's a place for "Rugged Individualism", as Rush would say. But years ago, those rugged individuals would know what's going on with folks and friends around them and help out quickly. Now we've left it to the government to know what's going on and help (can you say New Orleans and Katrina).
