An article in today's Courier-Journal notes McConnell's changes during the time the immigration bill was forefront in the Senate.  Very interesting in showing what all was taking place during the debate.

One quote on a photograph in the story: "McConnell said he saw a division within the Republican Party caucus".  I'm sure he did.  The problem is that the American people had an almost unified voice against the bill.  One more case of Capitol Hill not being in tune with the American people they represent.

Immigration Bill Defeated!

The immigration bill was defeated in the senate this morning, 53-46!  Here is the roll call.  Both Kentucky senators, McConnell and Bunning, voted against cloture.  Gee, I wonder if McConnell finally realized he was running for re-election in 2008 and it might not be a good idea to vote against his constituents.

By the way, this bill was a lose-lose proposition the moment President Bush started pushing it.  If it had passed, the nation would have suffered.  By failing, it gives the Democrats an issue to use against Republicans.  Yes, there were several Democrats who voted against this, but it will be portrayed in the media as a Republican attack against immigrants.  It amazes me that the president and GOP leadership did not see this.

Immigration Bill in Trouble?

I just saw on Drudge's site that the immigration bill might be in trouble.  This is good news.  See the article here at Breitbart.

One notable quote by Arlen Specter, a chief sponsor of the bill:

"...we are going to see the will of the Senate work one way or another.''

Funny, I thought they were there to do the will of the people.  And last I heard, the people didn't want this bill.

Truth(?) About The Immigration Bill

You know, maybe President Bush was finally telling the truth about the latest immigration bill.  Ok, so maybe it's a faux pas, a Freudian slip.  But he is the last person I ever expected to actually say the word amnesty.

With all the talk of who's behind the immigration bill, and who is not, I am glad to see a glimmer of hope here.  Maybe McConnell can lead others to vote no, if his objections are not satisfied.

Another Opinion on the NCAA's Ruling

After the NCAA's move to kick out the Courier-Journal blogger, a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writer opins on the issue:

It wouldn't surprise me if the Louisville students respond by mass blogging during future games. Would the NCAA decide to empty the seats to enforce the no-blogging policy?

Cool idea.  Maybe my beloved engineering school there could setup everyone's laptops.

NCAA's Bad Press Move

Awhile back, the NCAA started the trend to remove Indian mascots from college sports.  The fighting Irishmen are ok, just not any other nationality or group.

Now comes the NCAA's short-sightedness in kicking out a media blogger (Courier-Journal) at the University of Louisville - Oklahoma State super-regional game.  Personally, I think the NCAA isn't quite up to the times.  Sure, ESPN has rights to the game broadcast, but blogging isn't broadcasting.  It's more in line in this case with the newspaper it was associated with.  If reporters can be there to tell the story for newsprint, they can be there for electronic newsprint as well.

Somehow, someway, I think they may have shot themselves in the foot.
