And now...a word from  Lady Colonel, who with this post marks her first blog appearance here at Conservative Musings:

I recently heard Hillary speaking her mantra of universal health care.  She says she will not stop until we have Universal Health Care for everyone. 

I do not want Universal Health Care.  The government of the United States was not formed to handle these types of needs.  There is no way a government can effectively handle this.  It would mean all doctors, nurses and other health care workers would be government employees. 

I do NOT want Universal Health Care.  It would mean any insurance companies left behind would be run by the government. 

I DO NOT want Universal Health Care.   This would mean that the government would decide who gets care and who doesn’t.  It would mean you have limited choices.  If you wanted something other than what the government allowed, you would have no where to turn.  If it was going to take a year to get your tests, you would have to wait because unlike Canadians today, there would be no place for American’s to go.  (Canadians can at least come to the US today.)

I DO NOT WANT Universal Health Care.  Take what you pay in insurance bills and taxes and add a huge amount for bureaucracy.  Yes, you will be paying more than you are now.  Quite a bit more!  You will be paying bureaucrats to administer the system, along with health care for everyone.  Everything that Hillary wants costs a great deal of money.  How do you keep the costs down, you might ask?  The government chooses how much doctors make, along with nurses and all other health care professionals.   Does this mean that we will get a higher quality of care?  I don’t think so. 

I DO NOT WANT UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE.  Do you want your salary dictated by the government (like the health care professionals above)?  I don’t.  If I did, I would move to China.

Signs of More Louisville Liberal-ness

Back last August, Lady Colonel and I took a vacation up to the liberal Northeast. Ont of the towns we passed through was Brattleboro, Vermont.

Vermont is THE one state President Bush has not visited since since starting his terms of office in 2001.  I now see why.

Brattleboro residents will vote at town meeting on whether President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney should be indicted and arrested for war crimes, perjury or obstruction of justice if they ever step foot in Vermont.

Guess what?  The idea is making it's way around other areas of the country.

(T)he idea is spreading: Activists in Louisville, Ky., are spearheading a similar drive, and he said activists were also working in Montague, Mass., a Berkshires town.

When Louisville gets listed with towns in Vermont and Massachusetts, it can only be downhill from here.

Speaking of John Yarmuth

I see from Mark Hebert at WHAS-11, that Chris Thieneman is going to run for Yarmuth's seat.  To refresh your memory, Chris was behind the anti-tax group pushing a no vote on the Jefferson County library tax.  With Erwin Roberts withdrawing from the race due to being called up to the Army Reserve, Chris makes a very good replacement.  His success with a very noble cause puts him very high on my list.

H.R. 676

I saw this post recently concerning a House Resolution (H.R. 676) that John Yarmuth supports.  Based on the news that 676.org presents, this resolution does not look good at all.  Basically, it is an expansion of Medicare to cover everyone.  Or Hillarycare, in another form.

I see conflicting news of former versions of this bill dying at the end of the previous Congress session.  However, I do see signs of it resurrecting in the current Congressional session. 

I am not happy at all that our local Congressman is a supporter of this.  There's no way we need something like this due south of the Canadian border.  Actually, they don't really need it up there, either.....they're just stuck with it.  We don't need to be likewise stuck.

The Economics of Weather

WAVE-TV's meteorologist John Belski recently posted this comment on his blog:

Weather Channel math....you may have heard the Weather Channel is for sale. The asking price is 5 billion dollars. Their annual revenues are 290 million dollars. The Weather Channel is seen in 96 million homes. Compare that with the Oxygen channel's recent sale for about 800 million dollars on revenues of 220 million dollars. The Oxygen channel is seen in 74 million homes. Maybe the air is a little thin at TWC's accounting department.

Whoa!  Even with their technology allowing local forecasts on their channel, this sounds comparatively a little high!  I'm wondering what Landmark Communications is thinking.  By the way, these same folks own several newspapers in the area (Shelbyville and E-town) and the company WSI that provides all that weather data and graphics that stations like WAVE use.

On the side, I see John and I have been watching the same weather computer models.  The latest short term forecast shows about 8 degrees Fahrenheit at 8am tomorrow morning.  Brrrrr.

So maybe now I can finally understand what my golden retriever has been trying to tell me.  Somehow I think all his barking translates to one word.......FOOD.

America and Disasters

Remember Katrina?  She made landfall within the first two months after we started this blog.

I remember a lot about that time.  Particularly my feelings about the requests for help after the disaster.  It was heart-warming to see the outpouring of help in the aftermath.

What was sad was to see the differences in how difference groups respond so soon after the hurricane died down.  Some localities asked for help, got it, and moved quickly on to get the job done (as in Mississippi, or Texas with hurricane Rita soon after).  Some localities whined, complained that the federal government didn't do enough, and sat waiting for them to show up and do the work(as in, well, New Orleans).

A true picture of what America really is can be found in this recent USAToday article.  Note what these folks ARE NOT.  These are not folks saying "we're from the government, and we're here to help you."  These are not folks asking what the government can do for us.  These are not folks spending many, if any tax dollars.

They are folks doing what Americans do best.  They are hard working fellow citizens, helping other citizens who are still in need. 

Do the local, state, federal governments hold a place in providing disaster relief?  Yes, to a point.  But when we get to the point New Orleans did, in depending on the feds totally, we've moved way too far.  Sadly, it's what a welfare state has finally led to....total dependence.

Bravo to these fellow Americans!  They've shown me a glimmer of hope that true American-ism is still around.

Men and Women

At a previous church, Lady Colonel and I headed up the part of the marriage ministry for those who were thinking of or were about to get married.  One of the things we discussed was the differences in women and men.  Not so much physically, but how they think.  As in their brains.
