Who Really Is To Blame?

Something to think about since this is an election year for the House of Representatives (from Texas Rainmaker):

A little over a year ago:

1.  Consumer confidence stood at a 5-year high;
2.  Regular gasoline averaged under $2.30 a gallon;
3. The unemployment rate was down to 4.4%.
4.  Americans were enjoying historically-high home equity.

.
Since voting in a Democrat Congress in 2006 we have seen:

1.  Consumer confidence plummet;
2.  The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.25 a gallon;
3.  Unemployment rise to 4.8% (a 9% increase);
4.  American home equity hit the lowest point in six decades;
.
.
.
America voted for change in 2006… and change is what we got!

Maybe, in November, we should vote for more change!

Us Flat Earth Believers

Speaking of global warming, have you seen Al Gore's opinion of global warming unbelievers?  Comparing all of us to flat earth believers?

So out of touch!  Another version of this video lists a fair number of this "tiny, tiny minority" of scientists that are global warming unbelievers.  There is also a ton of us non-scientists blogging, in laughter, against his comments.

Knowing how out of touch he is, Al probably won't ever know about all this virtual press he's generating.  All on the internet he invented.

Earth Hour 2008

I heard someone call into Rush yesterday talking about the Earth Hour planned for tonight.  What a joke!  I'd be interested to know just how many folks end up really doing it.  Or for that matter, how many are doing the exact opposite.  Like me.

Real bummer for me, for I love Netflix's online movie watching.  I was even planning on using it tonight.  If it's been down since 10am Eastern this morning, I doubt it'll be back up anytime real soon.

He Is Risen!

One thing, early on, would have stopped Christianity dead in it's tracks.  That would have been someone publicly presenting the body of Jesus. 

The first century leadership in Jerusalem knew this:  ...some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day. (Matthew 28:11-15, New International Version).

Paul, the first century evangelist, knew this: And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.  (I Corinthians 15: 14-19, New International Version).

C. S. Lewis stated well the choices that Jesus words and actions left us to believe about Him: "A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on the level with a man who says he is a poached egg - or he would be the devil of hell.  You must take your choice. Either this was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse.  You can shut Him up for a fool or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God.  But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher.  He has not left that open to us." (Mere Christianity)

His action on Easter morning showed the world which choice fits: HE IS LORD!

Who's Afraid of Truth?

Over the past couple of months, our church has been viewing The Truth Project.  What has been enlightening to me are some of the details behind some common lies believed today by society.  Details on things like the myth that the founders of the United States had no religious basis in forming our nation (versus the truth that there was a religious basis).

One other "truth" discussed is that, much like global warming, Darwin-based evolutionary theory discussions have squelched the freedom to discuss ANY other possible theory.  Intelligent Design?  Don't dare discuss it.  Creationism?  Just for religious "extremists".

I thought of all this when I saw the recent trailer for Ben Stein's movie Expelled:No Intelligence Allowed (movie website here).  In the trailer, Ben mentions that today's science seems to be afraid to discuss anything else outside of Darwin's theory.  If Darwin's theory is so factual and perfect, what exactly is their fear?  Why silence every competing theory? 

I must admit....I'm intrigued.  The comments on the movie's blog intrigue me even more.

Beshear Rescinds Blog Blocking

There was a big deal made awhile back when the Fletcher administration had blocked some political blogs from being read by state employees.  At that time I suggested they should block ours, too.  Why should my tax dollars be spent paying employees to reading political blogs?

Now Governor Beshear is rescinding that internet block.  I agree with David Adams comment....."Block me!  Please, block me!".

Death of Arthur C. Clarke

I remember sitting in a 9th grade art class watching, of all things, the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.  Our teacher was using it to discuss the production of motion pictures.  Myself....I saw less of the making of movies and saw more of the possibilities of science; what man could do in the future.

Thank you Arthur C. Clarke, for giving some of us a glimpse into the future.

What Does This Tell Us?

One is known by the company one keeps.  So I have been told, as I grew up.  One is also known by who one chooses to advise them.

So what does this say about Barack Obama?  Sure, this advisor is now no longer with Obama's campaign.  Little difference now, tho.  Leaving a few months before an election does not outdo the years of association.

I'm back......to the colder, wetter home of Louisville.  Just missing, by about 3 hours, the mess Kentucky fans lived through down in Atlanta.  One time I'm glad all I saw was rain.
