Very interesting to hear that Rep. Joe Wilson's "You Lie" comment has now triggered adding "proof of citizenship" legislation into the health care bill. What happened to the "it was always there" statements?
It seems the left is already upset about this. Sounds like a repeat of the requirements of proving who one is when they vote. The argument being made is that proving citizenship adds too much of an administrative cost to insurance policies. Also arguing that not including "undocumented aliens" shrinks our risk pool thereby raising insurance costs.
Proving citizenship is a one time upfront issue, not a repetitive one. We do that already when we board flights at the airport or buy alcohol. Activities that daily protect us in some fashion. Arguing that we should cover illegal aliens just to have a bigger risk pool goes against our own sovereignty. The left has argued that our military shouldn't be used to fight for other country's freedom. If that logic is true, then our money should also not cover citizens of other countries health care.
