I am in the midst of reading Chuck Norris' book Black Belt Patriotism. I thought this quote of Thomas Jefferson was very relevant:
Debt, corruption, and rottenness. Sure sounds like today's Democratic Party to me.

The New York Times is now saying that the drop in subscribers by major newspapers like the Times themselves or the LA Times is by choice.
As the newspaper industry bemoans falling circulation, major papers around the country have a surprising attitude toward a lot of potential readers: Don’t bother.
The big American newspapers sell about 10 percent fewer copies than they did in 2000, and while the migration of readers to the Web is usually blamed for that decline, much of it has been intentional. Driven by marketing and delivery costs and pressure from advertisers, many papers have decided certain readers are not worth the expense involved in finding, serving and keeping them.
“It’s a rational business decision of newspapers focusing on quality circulation rather than quantity, shedding the subscribers who cost more and generate less revenue,” said Colby Atwood, president of Borrell Associates, a media research firm.
That rational business decision is being driven in part by advertisers, who have changed their own attitudes toward circulation.
Yeah, right. Tom Peters, in his book The Circle of Innovation, said “You can’t shrink your way to greatness!” If greatness could be achieved that way, these newspapers and their companies would be great newspapers today.
They seem to miss another financial metric about corporations. Even prior to the stock market drop of late, newspaper companies' share prices have been tumbling. Less people want to invest in them. If investors were convinced this tweaking of subscribers and advertisers was going to work, they'd be flocking to the stocks. I'm not seeing that mad rush.

Think about it.
If you are a supporter of Obama and you don’t see there is anything wrong with him, answer these questions.
Question one: Do you
believe in the historic magnificence of the making of the USA US
Question two: Do you
believe in socialism? Do you believe
that Europe, China Russia US
If you believe, like me, that the US
If you wanted to turn this country into another type of country and wanted to change the way our government works, how would you do it? Would you come in from another country and take it over through military action? I don’t think so. Our military and citizens would never allow it.
The only way to change our government to a radical socialist/Marxist government is from the inside. You change the minds of people through education and inside the government a little at a time.
Enter Barrack Obama.
Enter a news media that is so biased they don’t report anything bad on a candidate that could make that change and fool people into complacency. Remember the media that thought it was important for the public to know about the whereabouts of George W. for two weeks of National Guard time? Why do they not want to know about Rezco, Flager, Wright, Ayers, Rashid Khalid. This man has the possibility of making huge changes in the way our country operates. We deserve to know about the connections to the above people. It will tell a lot more about who Obama is and how he will lead than speeches to the masses.
Will people across our country be dubbed into thinking they are voting for one person and really voting for someone totally different? If Obama wins the election, and a gain is realized in the House and Senate along with appointments to the Supreme Court, where will any accountability be?

Perhaps we need a reminder of this little story from an circulating e-mail:
Once upon a time, on a farm in Virginia
She called all of her neighbors
together and said, "If we plant this wheat, we shall have bread to
eat. Who will help me plant it?"
"Not I," said the cow.
"Not I," said the
duck.
"Not I," said the pig.
"Not I," said the
goose.
"Then I will do it by
myself," said the little red hen and so she did. The wheat grew very
tall and ripened into golden grain.
"Who will help me reap my
wheat?" asked the little red hen.
"Not I," said the duck.
"Out of my classification,"
said the pig.
"I'd lose my seniority,"
said the cow.
"I'd lose my unemployment
compensation," said the goose.
"Then I will do it by
myself," said the little red hen, and so she did.
At last it came time to bake the
bread.
"Who will help me bake the
bread?" asked the little red hen.
"That would be overtime for
me," said the cow.
"I'd lose my welfare
benefits," said the duck.
"I'm a dropout and never learned
how," said the pig.
"If I'm to be the only helper,
that's discrimination," said the goose.
"Then I will do it by
myself," said the little red hen.
She baked five loaves and held them
up for all of her neighbors to see. They wanted some and, in fact,
demanded a share. But the little red hen said, "No, I shall eat all
five loaves."
"Excess profits!" cried the
cow. ( Nancy Pelosi)
"Capitalist leech!"
screamed the duck. (Barbara Boxer)
"I demand equal rights!"
yelled the goose. (Jesse Jackson)
The pig just grunted in disdain.
(Jimmy Carter)
And they all painted
"Unfair!" picket signs and marched around and around the little red
hen, shouting obscenities.
Then a government agent came.
He said to the little red hen, "You must not be so greedy."
"But I earned the bread,"
said the little red hen.
"Exactly," said the agent.
"That is what makes our free enterprise system so wonderful.
Anyone in the barnyard can earn as much as he wants. But under our
modern government regulations, the productive workers must divide the fruits of
their labor with those who are lazy and idle."
And they all lived happily ever
after, including the little red hen, who smiled and clucked, "I am
grateful, for now I truly understand."
But her neighbors became quite
disappointed in her. She never again baked bread, because she joined the
"party" and got her bread free. And all the Democrats smiled. 'Fairness'
had been established. Individual initiative had died, but nobody noticed;
perhaps no one cared... so long as there was free bread that "the
rich" were paying for.
IS THIS A GREAT BARNYARD OR WHAT?

By now, you've seen the Youtube videos catching Barack Obama's tax plan. Just a little of the transcript:
"Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn't it?" the plumber asked, complaining that he was being taxed "more and more for fulfilling the American dream."
"It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success too," Obama responded. "My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody ... I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."
"not that I want to punish your success"???? He may not want to, but that is effectively what his tax plan would do.
Does anyone reading this WANT to succeed? Maybe seriously want to succeed? How does it feel, knowing that more of your money gets taken away as you make more?
Barack is NOT saying, by his comment, that he's trying to help people out necessarily. What he is saying is that he's trying to level everyone out. If this were grade school, why have some with A's and B's and some with D's and F's? Why not give them all C's?
If we're all gonna get money from the government anyway, why try to succeed? Just kick back and be a couch potato. Let the taxed fat cats take care of you.
Sadly, after awhile, the fat cats would all be gone to somewhere less taxing. Leaving us with a wrecked economy and a welfare state. Exactly the type of thing happening now in Denmark.
Not exactly the thing to mirror from a European country.

Also in that speech, he said:
"That's why I'm proposing to give our businesses a new American jobs tax credit
for each new employee they hire here in the United States over the next two
years." ]
How many businesses would create a job to get a tax credit? That's just like big government...spend $40,000 to get a tax credit of a few thousand.
Sounds like the argument I give Colonel Steve when I go shopping. "But I saved $10.00!" Of course his answer is "But think how much you would have saved if you didn't buy it at all."
How many of you employers that are struggling will hire new employees to get a tax credit?
-Lady Colonel
Today, Obama gave a speech in which he said:
"Over the course of this campaign, I've laid out a set of policies that will grow our middle-class and strengthen our economy in the long-term. I'll reform our tax code so that 95% of workers and their families get a tax cut, and eliminate income taxes for seniors making under $50,000. I'll bring down the cost of health care for families and businesses by investing in preventative care, new technology, and giving every American the chance to get the same kind of health insurance that members of Congress give themselves. We'll ensure every child can compete in the global economy by recruiting an army of new teachers and making college affordable for anyone who wants to go. We'll create five million new, high-wage jobs by investing in the renewable sources of energy that will eliminate the oil we currently import from the Middle East in ten years, and we'll create two million jobs by rebuilding our crumbling roads, schools and bridges."
and also:
"To fuel the real engine of job creation in this country, I've also proposed eliminating all capital gains taxes on investments in small businesses and start-up companies, and I've proposed an additional tax incentive through next year to encourage new small business investment. It is time to protect the jobs we have and to create the jobs of tomorrow by unlocking the drive, and ingenuity, and innovation of the American people. And we should fast track the loan guarantees we passed for our auto industry and provide more as needed so that they can build the energy-efficient cars America needs to end our dependence on foreign oil."
I have lots of thoughts here. We have just spent $700 billion in a bail-out plan. We spent over $600 billion in a budget. There is talk about giving the families who can't pay their home loans money to do that. Now, Obama says he will give 95% of American's a tax cut. He will eliminate taxes on seniors that make under $50,000. (Remember, seniors are growing in number every day since the baby boomers are arriving.) The comment on health care is rather vague but it appears that he is going to bring down the cost of health care? How does that work? Dictate what doctors are allowed to charge? The government is going to invest in preventive care...how much is that going to cost? We will have the chance to get the same health care that Congress has? I assume that means free since theirs is free. An army of new teachers, at a cost of what? How do you make college affordable? I thought that is what grants and scholarships were for along with student loans. Is he proposing something new? Another cost? We're going to rebuild our roads. How many of these things do you really think will occur?
The second paragraph is where it gets really weird. Since when did small businesses and start up companies have capital gains? Can anyone explain this one? Does Obama know what a capital gain is and how that works on tax forms?
-Lady Colonel
When did this get added to the Bill of Rights?
-Colonel Steve
John McCain reminds Barack Obama of his promise not to tax in a bad economy. Good reminder for the young one of the two.
-Colonel Steve
According to Rasmussen Reports, 59% of us are ready for a clean slate of the current Congress and vote out the current officeholders. My gut feeling is 59% might be just a little low. I know I'm feeling that way.
That may just explain Mitch McConnell's current polling numbers. As one of the batch in the Senate who voted for the bailout bill, I'm not surprised. We'll have to see John Yarmuth's numbers soon, as well, since he voted in the House for the same pork laden fiasco.
And let's not forget this: George Bush stated today "I signed the bill on Friday. It's going to take time for the Treasury Department to put a plan in place that won't waste your money and that will achieve the objectives." This from one of the folks who said we had to have this bill RIGHT NOW? Like it couldn't take time to be negotiated and debated? Sorry, even this conservative is not buying it.
All this said, it does scare me to think what would be happening now if Senators Obama and Biden were in office today. Coupled with this bailout fiasco would be new pork AND new taxes. All put on the backs of the working people of this country, middle class and all.
Scary.
