Today, while visiting a friend of the family's funeral, I ran into a guy I haven't seen in years. He works for the Kentucky Post.
It was news to me today, but it's been known since July that the Cincinnati Post and Kentucky Post are closing their doors on December 31st. The friend and his boss were both at the funeral, and they understandably spoke about their sadness in seeing the newspaper close. But interestingly, they also spoke about their confusion on losing business to things that aren't making money. The "things" were online versions of news sources (newspapers, tv & radio stations, etc.) and to the news blogs. Neither of these they saw as making any money.
I didn't really have anything to counter their thoughts on the money-making part, so I remained rather silent on that part. It did peak my curiosity though. Any clue on the level of any profit on news blogs? Or other news sites? I'm not so much interested in exact numbers, but I am curious as to some facts for the next time I'm in a conversation like this one today.
