Today, the CJ is reporting that 15,000 are still without power. A big, well deserved thank you is due to all the line workers who have gotten us this far since our horrendous wind storm.
One Valley Station lady has the right idea. Way to go Kim!

This morning I feel like one of the lucky ones. Our power came on sometime before 9am today.
The latest figures say that 75% of the Louisville area was without power sometime yesterday. Teams that were sent out from here to help Gustav and Ike affected areas have been recalled to rebuild the Louisville area. Because of the stretched resources, it may be up to 10-14 days before our area is totally operational again.

Ike has made his effects known to the Louisville area. As of now, Red, Lady Colonel, and I are all part of the 60% of Louisville without power. Right now, I'm borrowing a friends wireless connection to post this (one of the other "lucky" 40%).
It's looks like it will be days before we get power back. LG&E is expecting areas to be out for as long as a week. OUCH!
So until power comes back on, we'll see ya later.

leads only to a subpoena? I guess their new slogan should be "Moving at the speed of government".

I'm rather surprised to hear that answers from the gas price probe from awhile ago will actually see the light of day. You may remember this story from July 3rd, stating how that "Gov. Steve Beshear and Attorney General Jack Conway plan on asking the oil companies" as to why Louisville's gas prices were so much higher that the surrounding area and Northern Kentucky.
I'll be interested to see what all is said in the 1:30pm press conference. Note that John "No Drilling" Yarmuth is appearing with the slate of democrats at the press conference. I guess this is gonna let him pretend he's doing something about gas prices.

Just got a flyer in the mail today telling me of seven opportunities to speak to 3rd District Representative John Yarmuth about our important issues. I say you join me in attending at least one of them. A perfect opportunity to bring up the "drill now" side of the issues.
Dates, times, and locations:
August 4th, 6:30-8:30pm, Louisville Bats Community Night, 401 East Main Street
August 6th, 6:30-8:30pm, The Summit, 4300 Summit Plaza Drive
August 9th, 9-10:30am, Valumarket, 7519 Outer Loop
August 15th, 3-5pm, Downtown Office, Romano Mazzoli Federal Bldg, Suite 216
August 16th, 8:30-10am, Pic-Pac, 501 Mount Holly Road, Fairdale
August 16th, 10:30-12am, McDonald's at Lyles Mall, 2720 West Broadway
August 22nd, 3-5pm, South End Office, Southwest Government Center, 7219 Dixie Highway
I think it's time he heard from his conservative base.

Last night's Jefferson County GOP picnic resembled a sort of minature Fancy Farm picnic. Food, speeches, and campaign stickers galore.
Two of my favorites:
There were the standard representatives there for Mitch McConnell and Anne Northup. Anne herself was one of the speakers, giving us all an insight into the directions she is wanting to head. The second sticker above covers that topic real well. She reminded us all of the oil-blocking representative we currently have representing us in John Yarmuth.
This picnic was a good move on the part of the local GOP. Setting up local grassroots activists is always a good idea. Sure, the $1,000-plus campaign fundraisers like McCain's recent visit are also good moves. But getting the "common folk" involved may not gain the same dollars. Just more important stuff.....votes. A good way to shop for votes in a local setting. Not where people can't vote for you, like say, oh, Berlin?

Tomorrow night (Friday, July 25th), the Jefferson County Republican Party will be holding a picnic at Charlie Vettiner Park off of Billtown Road. A perfect opportunity to rub elbows with those seeking your vote.

Anyone remember this story from July 3rd? How the state is going to investigate the Louisville gas price differences?
When I read the story, I had a "fat chance" thought run thru my mind. We're still awaiting answers.
Luckily for us, gas prices in the Louisville area have "miraculously" sunk to levels more like the national average, according to gasbuddy.com.
Somehow, I don't think it's this investigation that caused it. I agree with Bill Brundridge at Elephants in the Bluegrass, who says it's President George Bush's rescinding the Executive Order banning offshore drilling that has lowered gas prices. More news like this could see that line drop even further.
